The mission of the Washington Blade Foundation is to administer the archives of the Washington Blade newspaper from its beginnings to present day. Those archives chronicle the rich history and vibrant stories of more than 40 years of the LGBTQ community in Washington, D.C. and across the nation.
Making
the contents of those archives available for public research, reference and as
educational material is a primary goal of the Foundation along with making
available to the public the collections of books, writings, images and
other important and historic materials about the history and culture of the LGBTQ
community.
In addition, the Foundation will work to fund academic research into LGBTQ topics and to support the work of young gay journalists.
The
Washington Blade newspaper has long covered our history and from that expansive set
of stories written by dedicated staff and contributors will rise the next
step in the preservation of our culture and contributions:
The Washington Blade Foundation.
